Maritime ArchaeologyThere are many archaeological remains along the coastline and sea-bed of Northern Ireland. A number of these sites and remains have been protected. The Northern Ireland Environment Agency has established a maritime record which can be accessed on the Sites and Monuments Record. The maritime heritage also includes the protection of shipwrecks and inter-tidal sites. A number of sites have been scheduled and in the case of wrecks many have been protected under the Protection of Wrecks Act 1973. |
