A number of members of HMC together with some members of its sister body, Historic Buildings Council, form the Joint Committee of Industrial Heritage to consider and make recommendations on the protection, conservation and recording of industrial sites and structures in Northern Ireland; to consider and be responsible for advising on cases referred to it by the Historic Monuments Council, the Historic Buildings Council and the Department of the Environment; to promote the recording and protection of structures connected with the defence heritage in Northern Ireland; to encourage research and publication; and to promote interest in industrial heritage.
This Committee normally meets quarterly.
There is also a joint group made up of HBC/HMC members and Northern Ireland Environment Agency staff for promoting building awareness. Its remit is currently being reviewed.
