Scheduled Monuments

The main function of Council as a statutory advisor is to be consulted on and endorse the Northern Ireland Environment Agency proposals on the scheduling of monuments. The scheduling of monuments falls under the provision of the Historic Monuments and Archaeological Objects (NI) Order 1995. NIEA proposals are based on a set of criteria determined by the NIEA and are included in PPS6 - Planning, Archaeology and the Built Heritage. Currently there are some 15000 scheduled monuments.
