Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 establishes a right of access by the public to all types of recorded information held by Government Departments, and public authorities, including advisory Non-Departmental Public Bodies such as HMC.

In some instances, you could find that information may have been 'removed' from a document. This is because the information falls within an exemption. Where this occurs, the document will be clearly marked to show where information has been removed and the exemption used.

Typically, information may be withheld if its release would compromise health and safety or where confidential information or personal data about others is included or for reasons of security. Where this occurs, the material will clearly show where the information has been withheld and explain what exemption has been applied and why.
